Dear Reader,
What you are reading today is the first of several editorials to be published by individual members of the REFLEX Research Group. This is also the first editorial for the year 2016. My name is Martin, and I am the technology coordinator for IDOCDE. I am here to support you with any technical issues you might come across when using the platform. I further try to look for ways how we can update the platform and adapt to changing needs.
Referencing and linking resources to your IDOC
How do you document your work? Where do you store your video documentation? How do you keep track of them, especially after they have been shared with others? How to keep the different forms of documentation in context with each other? -- How do you use the IDOC : the idocde way of putting things together?
If you are drawing from other resources and want to link to them to the IDOC you are working on – you can do so by copying the address of an IDOC and using the “insert/edit link” button in the toolbar of the editor to enter it into your IDOC.
Categorising your IDOCs
How do you share your documented work effectively through the platform idocde.net? An important thing to do is to choose carefully which type of IDOC you are creating. Proper categorisation helps other idocde users find their way to your material.
Don’t know what I am talking about? Go click on your name at the top of the idocde page and then on “+ Create an IDOC”. Below the Title and Content section you have the “IDOC Type / Tags” section. You can choose from 10 different types and you can specify up to 4 additional topic tags.
This might feel like abstract or unnecessary work, but let me assure you that it’s work worth investing some thought and time into. It allows for more successful and more focused circulation of information. Which is what we’re all here for, right?
Spring Cleaning Categorising your IDOCs
Sometimes I think – will I ever finish the 26 hidden idocs that I have in my profile? They may contain something of interest to others... I should go through them, publish or delete them – clean up my digital clutter. I, for example, took part in the writing of 52 published IDOCs, only few of which are written by myself alone. For each of the published IDOCs I have a hidden draft – how is your ratio there? Which one of your drafts are up for publication? Can any be published as a draft? There is a category for this called “IDOC Draft (an idoc asking for feedback)”. Any intention to share them with us?
If you are, on the other hand, working towards making your IDOC presentable, but you are unsure of what that would mean – you can either consult with already existing IDOC, and use some for reference or… Pavle is now in the team – him and Defne are there to support you with any questions and they can even offer editing support!
As one does, you too might run into having questions relating to video or image integration, formatting or any other technical stuff. If the Help section is not able to answer those, feel free to get in touch with me directly!

Remember to utilise us! Not only the three of us (Martin, Pavle or Defne), but all of us - the idocde teachers ready to share and make our collective work visible! And remember that the Call for Propositions for the 4th Symposium "The Importance of Being [Un]Necessary - 2016" is now open. Could be a good motivation to get back to some documenting, I reckon?!
