Creating, teaching and dancing involves unconditional sharing.

Many of the qualitie that we value most emerge out of the elimination of noise or negatives... Love cannot exist when there is too much stress.

Oral tradition/ body traditons of passing on information... We can preserve/ document only the things around the dance. Costumes pictures writings can be preserved. The dance is the silence amidst the objects we preserve. By understanding the things which brought the dance into being, and shared time and space with the dance, and were generated by the dance we can get a sense of what the dance might have been.

By unconditionally sharing a creation I make it avalable to generate anew through its reuse, translation, adaptation, reconstructiom by a second artist. This second artist sharing again allows me to be inspired by this new object dance. In a sense being reinspired by the dance that I originally created.

A teacher is voice that inspires through generations of teachers that follow. What happens to that teaching when the voice is silenced. How does that change the preciousness, value of the voice that is lost. How do we express that loss by an increased sharing and working together to define and preserve and pass on everything that is of most value in that new silence.

Oral traditions in dance forms are passed on under the watchful eyes of generations of people; grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren are all present in the transmission. The evolution in the body is then perhaps slowed by the everpresent example of the previous generations. In modern/contemporary dance it has been seen that even when the choreographer works with the original dancers and documentation to reconstruct an older work the work will become something new. As a result of different training methods which create different bodies, awareness, quality in the young dancers that can never dance in the same way as the older dancers. Even in a carefully preserved tradition like ballet the changing training methods and influences of new choreographers make it almost impossible to perform an old work in the way that an earlier generation of dancer would have done.
