This instruction was created when I felt the desire to do an instant dance in memory and honor of Rosemary Butcher after learning of her death, but was unable to do so for outside reasons. Thus, I created the instructions for myself but haven’t had the possibility to follow them.

Invisible dance: Instructions for an improvisational session

Find a space and a pose. Be still for a moment.

Start moving. Focus on your movement. Eventually, shift your focus to your breath.

After a while, shift back to your movement. Observe changes.

Keep shifting your focus from your movement to other structures around you, sight, sound, taste, textures, patterns, a specific section of the floor, a single sound. Keep shifting back to your movement and observe changes.

Now, intentionally let the structures you periodically focus on bleed into your movement, pick up inspiration from it. Again, let go of the focus and come back to your movement. Observe changes.

Conclude with a period of focusing on your breath, a period focusing on your movement, and finish trying to focus on nothing in particular.

In another session, follow the instructions above and make your dance in a way that makes it invisible to the outside eye.
